Bernard Shaw, who served as the anchor of CNN over a period of 20 years, became a household name following his reporting of the Gulf War in 1991

"CNN's most beloved anchor as well as coworker, Bernard Shaw, passed today at the age 82.

Bernie was one of CNN first and was our Washington Anchor at the time we launched on June 1st, 1980," Chris Licht, CNN Chairman

Licht added, "He was our lead anchor for the next 20 years, from anchoring presidential election coverage to his legendary reportage of the First Gulf War live from Baghdad in 1991.
